Selecting the Correct Strut Channel for a Structural Steel Structure

Manufacturers of Strut Channel Connectors can be found everywhere. These manufacturers are dedicated to providing the highest quality hardware to meet your specific needs. Whether you need Strut Channels for intercoms, walkways or security fencing, you will find only the best brands in your area to help you find what you need.

A strut channel is typically formed from a steel sheet, folded into an open channel configuration with inward-curved channels for added stiffness and as an area to fasten connecting components such as hinges, knobs and door latches. Increasingly, strut channels are being made from high-density fiberglass, which is known for its lightweight properties and rigid structural strength. Unlike many other materials used for structural components, Strut Channels meet stringent fatigue and stress requirements for strength and durability. Some of the best Strut Channel manufacturers include Strutcher, Moog, Clark and Earlex. In addition, some Strut Channel manufacturers are expanding into electronics, automotive lighting, safety, power supplies, and more.

As with most components used in construction and building, there are several variations of Strut Channel available. The most common Strut Channel material used by Strut Channel manufacturers is a galvanized steel single strand/longer gauge material called Struteline. Strut Channel manufacturers typically utilize several variations of Strut Channel that include: half-round, full-round, reinforced, and trim. Some Strut Channels are typically made from materials like: aluminum, copper, brass, bronze, galvanized steel, PTFE, polyester, nylon, and vinyl.

In order to reduce corrosion of the Strut Channel, Strut Channels are usually manufactured using a powder coating process. When a single strand of Strut Channels is coated with a zinc coating, the Strut Channel will have increased corrosion resistance as well as improved toughness and thickness. Typically zinc coating is applied to the entire strand or just the outside termination areas. Most Strut Channel manufacturers utilize a cold-rolled galvanized steel single strand which is coated with a high-quality zinc coating. Cold rolled galvanized steel is one of the most durable and hardest metals around.

Some Strut Channels are typically made from unistrut, which is another metal that is hard and flexible. In unistrut, the metal strands are twist woven together. When they are twist woven, Strut Channels are stronger and have more potential to hold their shape, than standard Strut Channels. Unistrut is commonly used in high-performance engineering applications.

Both Strut Channel manufacturers can customize the length of the Strut Straps for many customers. The customer can select the required lengths based on the application, structural design, or suitability for particular application. For custom orders, some Strut Channel manufacturers may even assist with determining the ideal dimensions and tensile strengths.
